The Furniture Ombudsman featured on prime time BBC television

The Furniture Ombudsman, an organisation which aims to inspire consumer confidence in the furniture industry, has recently (Monday 27 February) appeared on BBC1 in Wales to advise on consumers' issues relating to furniture.

'X-ray' is a highly popular consumer series which examines consumer concerns and issues. It is shown every Monday evening at 7.30pm on BBC1 (Wales).

Kevin Grix, Head of The Furniture Ombudsman, was asked to take part in an episode focusing on furniture after three customers approached X-ray with complaints regarding products bought from a furniture company. In the episode, Kevin discusses the protection and assistance that exists for consumers who buy furniture products which they feel are not fit-for-purpose. Kevin continues to explain the additional benefits which buying from a Member of The Furniture Ombudsman provides with the show presenter Rhodri Owen. Kevin speaks about the services provided by The Furniture Ombudsman, as well as how the organisation strives to inspire consumer confidence within the furniture industry, by raising standards and improving service.

Following the filming, Kevin said, "I was really pleased to be asked to take part in this episode of X-ray. We are very keen to make consumers aware that more and more retailers are joining The Furniture Ombudsman. In so doing, our Members agree to abide by our code of practice to ensure consumers a fair deal when purchasing furniture products. We are sure that the TV coverage will lead to increased awareness of The Furniture Ombudsman for both retailers and consumers."

This is the second time The Furniture Ombudsman has been approached this year by a terrestrial television channel to offer guidance on consumer issues, showing the increasing profile and importance of the organisation.

For a short period (28 February - 6 March 2012), the episode is available to view on BBC iplayer and can be seen on the BBC X-ray website.
