Alternative Dispute Resolution
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is achieved through the conciliation and adjudication service that is exclusive to consumers of registered Full Members of The Furniture Ombudsman.
The Furniture Ombudsman could, for example, make an early decision on the validity of a claim, recommend or uphold an offer which has already been made or negotiate a compromise through mediation.
As with all disputes, resolution is not always possible without the assistance of some credible third party such as the Court or an arbitrator. Where settlement simply cannot be reached between the consumer and the retailer, TFO is empowered by its members to make a formal decision in the form of an adjudication.

Bringing a case before the Ombudsman is often more economical than bringing a case before the courts. There is no need for you to file large volumes of legal documents, arrange your own inspections or appoint expert witnesses. We do not require witness statements from you or ask you to engage a lawyer and you are never required to appear before us in person.

Suitable for: Soft furnishings, cushions etc.
Smart Report
Suitable for: Soft furnishings; upholstery; cabinets; wooden furniture; upholstery & beds.
Independent Consultant Report
Suitable for: Soft furnishings; upholstery; cabinets; wooden furniture; upholstery & beds and home improvement installations such as kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.
Expert Witness Report
Suitable for: High value soft furnishings and home improvement installations such as kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.
